This itinerary is recommended for first-time visitors to Sichuan and Tibet, aiming to experience the highlights of Chengdu and Lhasa: Pandas, Sichuan cuisine, sacred temples, and picturesque landscapes.
Your private guide meets you at the airport or train station and transfers you to your hotel in a comfortable, non-smoking car. They will assist with check-in.
Morning with pandas (2 hours): Visit the Panda Base, avoiding crowds while matching pandas' active periods. Food challenge at a traditional market (1.5 hours): Experience Chengdu, Asia's first UNESCO City of Gastronomy, trying snacks like pickles and century eggs. Learn Sichuan cooking (2.5 hours): Cook three typical Sichuan dishes with a local chef and invent your recipe.
Experience local parks Chengdu style (2.5 hours): Discover tea culture, square dancing, and the city's laid-back lifestyle. Behind the scenes at a theatre (1 hour): Visit the backstage of a Sichuan Opera theatre, chat with actors about their makeup and roles. Enjoy panda-themed afternoon tea and overlook Tianfu Square (1.5 hours): Explore the city's history and cultural landmarks.
Your private driver and guide in Lhasa will ensure a smooth transfer to your hotel.
Visit the Dalai Lama's summer garden, Norbulingka (1.5 hours). Explore Drepung Monastery and if lucky, hear monks chanting. Lunch at a local restaurant, with options for Tibetan, Western, or spicy Sichuan cuisine. Witness monks debate at Sera Monastery (1 hour).
Visit the most sacred temples (2 hours): Join pilgrims at Jokhang Temple and explore Barkhor Street in a clockwise direction. Tour the Dalai Lama's winter palace, Potala Palace (2 hours): Prepare to climb steps and be amazed by the exquisite murals and architecture.
Drive about 2 hours to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's four holy lakes. If weather permits, enjoy a picnic by the lake.
Your guide and driver will transfer you to the airport, concluding your journey.
The trip is flexible. Change the itinerary, extend or shorten your stay to match your budget, interests, and schedule.
Included in the tour price. Send us a copy of your passport and Chinese visa 20 days in advance, and we'll apply for your permit.
Consult your doctor before traveling and carry medication. Keep warm, avoid bathing, smoking, and alcohol for the first 2 days in Tibet. Drink lots of water and eat vegetables and carbohydrates.
Cameras are not allowed, but phones are. Remove hats and sunglasses as a sign of respect. Dress modestly. Walk clockwise around Barkhor Street.
